History: ABD Aqua
Having been part of the Sea-Food Industry since 1971, our Total Export Earnings since inception has been over Rs.1500 Crore.
Shrimp Aquaculture Industry in India has emerged as a major foreign exchange earner since the 1970s. An advantage that India enjoys is the large extent of brackish water area, ideal for shrimp culture. In the Indian Maritime states, the largest brackish water extent is found in West Bengal and with a bonus of low labour costs. The development in technology to produce the critical inputs of high quality feed, seeds and processing units have given aqua farming a clear edge over capital intensive, but uncertain, marine harvesting.

Perspectives: ABD Aqua Business
Efforts on Quality Enhancement: The approach to quality differs from one importing country to another. While Japan insists on natural farming conditions and freshness of the product, the US and Canadian buyers are concerned more about food safety. China, South-East Asia and Middle East countries need commercially acceptable products, fit for human consumption.
At ITC-ABD’s Processing Unit, samples are drawn by the processor’s EIA Approved technologist, for every lot of raw material, processed at different stages of production.
